Trophy Whitetail Hunting

Maryland’s Eastern Shore is home to exceptional whitetail habitat, and Rivers Edge Outdoors gives hunters access to a network of proven private properties surrounding Chestertown, Maryland. Our farms offer a diverse mix of agricultural fields, hardwoods, bedding cover, travel corridors, and food sources that consistently hold quality deer.

But access to good land is only part of the equation. Our properties are managed, monitored, and scouted throughout the year. Trail cameras, evening scouting, habitat and food sources, historical deer movement, wind direction, hunting pressure, and seasonal patterns all help determine where we place each hunter. As conditions and deer movement change, so does our strategy.

Managed for Mature Bucks

Our whitetail management program is focused on giving younger bucks the opportunity to mature. Trophy buck harvests must meet our minimum standard of a mature 8-point or larger, while doe harvests are an important part of maintaining a healthy and balanced herd.

Just as important is what we don’t do: we don’t pack hunters onto our farms. Hunting pressure is carefully managed, and our guides work hard to move hunters quietly in and out of properties while minimizing unnecessary scent, noise, and disturbance.

Trophy Hunt or Fill the Freezer

Not every hunter comes to us with the same goal. Some of our longtime clients have already harvested mature 8- and 9-point bucks and are willing to pass quality deer while waiting for something truly exceptional. Others simply want an enjoyable Eastern Shore deer hunt and the opportunity to bring home quality venison.

Tell us what success looks like to you. Understanding your goals helps us choose the property, location, and strategy that we believe gives you the best opportunity to accomplish them.

Proven Properties. Experienced Strategy.

Success in whitetail hunting isn’t always about having the biggest piece of land—it’s about knowing the right place to be at the right time. Our hunting properties range from very large farms to small, strategically located parcels. Sometimes the stand a hunter questions the most turns out to be exactly where a mature buck wants to travel.

That knowledge comes from decades spent hunting Maryland’s Eastern Shore. We study how deer use each property and continually adjust according to weather, wind, food sources, rut activity, hunting pressure, and what we’re seeing in the field.

We cannot guarantee the harvest of a trophy buck—no ethical outfitter can. What we can provide is proven private land, year-round preparation, experienced guides, carefully managed hunting pressure, and a strategy designed to give you the best opportunity possible.

Whitetail Harvest Guidelines

Hunters may harvest one deer per day—buck or doe. Trophy bucks must meet our minimum standard of a mature 8-point or larger, and hunters are expected to positively identify and evaluate a deer before taking the shot. A penalty applies for harvesting an undersized or immature buck.

Doe harvest is available throughout much of the season but may be restricted immediately before, during, and after the rut as part of our hunting and management strategy.

Make your shot count. A wounded deer is considered a harvested deer, including a wounded buck that cannot ultimately be recovered. If a shot is taken, hunters must contact their guide and remain in their stand until instructed otherwise. Tracking should never begin without your guide.

More Than 40 Years of Eastern Shore Whitetail Hunting

From the early days of B&J Guide Service to today’s Rivers Edge Outdoors, whitetail hunting has remained an important part of our family’s story. Many of our clients have hunted with us for 10, 20, 30, and even more than 40 years, with children and grandchildren now becoming part of that tradition.

The name has changed. The management program has evolved. But the commitment remains the same: great properties, knowledgeable guides, low hunting pressure, and an experience that gives hunters a reason to come back year after year.
