When the Sun Goes Down, a Different Hunt Begins
Predator hunting brings an entirely different kind of excitement to Rivers Edge Outdoors. While it may be one of our lesser-requested hunts, it is easily one of our favorites. Our predator hunts primarily focus on foxes, combining calling, patience, quick reactions, and the thrill of seeing a predator respond and work its way into range.
Much of the excitement happens after dark. The fields and farms you may recognize during daylight become a completely different environment at night—and when a set of eyes finally appears in the distance, things can happen quickly.
Calling Them Into Range
Successful predator hunting is about much more than simply sitting and waiting. Our guides use their knowledge of the property, wind, cover, travel corridors, and predator behavior to select locations where we believe we have the best opportunity to call an animal into range.
Calling is a major part of the hunt. Knowing which call to use, how long to call, when to change sounds, and when to remain quiet can make the difference between a predator hanging up in the distance and committing to the setup.
Fast. Unpredictable. Exciting.
Predator hunting requires patience—but once an animal responds, the hunt can change in seconds. Hunters need to be ready to identify the animal, follow their guide’s direction, and make a safe, responsible shot when the opportunity presents itself.
No two setups are exactly alike. Conditions, wind, time of night, predator activity, and how an animal responds all influence our strategy throughout the hunt.
One of Our Best-Kept Secrets
Predator hunting may not receive the attention of our whitetail, Sika, or waterfowl hunts, but that’s part of what makes it special. It’s a completely different way to experience our Eastern Shore properties and one of those hunts that’s difficult to fully appreciate until you’ve watched a fox respond to the call yourself.
It’s one of our lesser-known hunts—but certainly one of our favorites to guide.
