Waterfowl Hunting

Maryland’s Eastern Shore sits along the legendary Atlantic Flyway, creating incredible opportunities for both duck and Canada goose hunting throughout the season. Rivers Edge Outdoors combines proven private properties, experienced guides, extensive decoy spreads, expert calling, and constant scouting to stay on changing bird movement and give our hunters the best opportunity each day.

Duck Hunting

Our duck hunts offer opportunities for both puddle ducks and divers, creating two very different Eastern Shore hunting experiences. Depending on the location and conditions, hunters may pursue mallards, black ducks, wigeon, gadwall, green-winged teal, pintails, and other puddle ducks from our coves, points, ponds, and water blinds.

For those looking for a completely different experience, our diver hunts target species such as buffleheads, bluebills, canvasbacks, and redheads, often from our off-shore blinds on productive Eastern Shore waters.

Canada Goose Hunting

There’s nothing quite like watching a flock of Canada geese work a spread and commit to the decoys. Our goose hunts take place on private Eastern Shore farms selected according to current bird activity, feeding patterns, weather, and movement.

Scouting is a critical part of every hunt. Our guides continually monitor where birds are feeding and moving so we can select the properties and setups we believe offer the best opportunity rather than simply hunting the same location day after day.

The Work Behind the Hunt

Successful waterfowl hunting starts long before legal shooting time. Depending on the hunt and conditions, our guides may set and retrieve hundreds of decoys—sometimes more than 500 for a single morning’s hunt. Spreads are adjusted according to species, weather, wind, migration patterns, and what the birds are telling us.

Our decoys are picked up rather than simply left in place, helping us avoid educating birds or disrupting their natural patterns. Blinds are prepared and maintained, properties are continually scouted, and setups change as conditions and bird movement change.

Then comes the calling. Knowing when to call, how aggressively to call, when to change the conversation, and when to simply let the birds work comes from years spent watching and understanding how waterfowl respond in the field.

More Than 40 Years of Eastern Shore Waterfowl Hunting

From the early days of B&J Guide Service to today’s Rivers Edge Outdoors, duck and goose hunting has been part of our family’s story for more than four decades. Many of our guides grew up hunting these waters and fields, while many of our clients have returned year after year—and generation after generation—to share another morning in the blind.

Waterfowl hunting is unpredictable by nature, but one thing doesn’t change: our guides put in the scouting, preparation, calling, and hard work necessary to give you the best opportunity for a memorable day in the field.
